Bhutan Entry Formalities & Visa

All foreign travelers, except for citizens of India, Maldives, and Bangladesh, must obtain a visa in advance to enter Bhutan. The visa application process is managed through licensed Bhutanese tour operators, like Legendary Bhutan Tours & Treks, who will handle the application on your behalf.

Foreigners can enter Bhutan through three designated points: Phuentsholing, which borders India in the southwest; Gelephu, located in south-central Bhutan; and Samdrup Jongkhar in the southeast.

Once your visa application is approved, you will receive a visa clearance letter via email. This document is essential for entry and must be presented upon arrival at the designated entry points. At the port of entry, immigration officials will stamp your passport, granting you access to travel within Bhutan.

In addition to the visa, all foreign nationals are subject to a daily Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), which is a part of Bhutan’s unique tourism policy. The SDF supports sustainable tourism and contributes to preserving Bhutan's pristine environment, rich cultural heritage, and high standards of social services. The SDF covers essential services during your stay and is an important step in ensuring a positive impact from tourism within Bhutan.

By working with Legendary Bhutan Tours & Treks, you’ll have a seamless entry experience, with all entry formalities handled to ensure a stress-free journey into the beautiful Kingdom of Bhutan.
